Top 5 things to do - CHARLESTON, SC
Charleston is a gorgeous city, with a rich history with streets lined with old architecture and slate sidewalks! As you stroll around town, you will see horse drawn carriages, age old churches and gorgeous historic homes with immaculate landscape! Overall, it’s a quaint, walkable town, full of delicious eats and great cocktails! In my opinion is best suited for 21 and older. Perfect spot for a guys/girls or couples’ trip! Read on for the 5 things you MUST hit on your next Charleston Trip!
1. Shop King Street! There are so many fun boutique shops to look in along with all the big-name staples! Pro Tip: If you begin at Broad Street, start at Miller’s All Day for brunch! They have delicious food, decadent pastries, and a wide variety of mimosas to choose from! You won’t be disappointed!
2. Visit the Market! The Charleston Market can be found on Market St (surprisingly) and runs from Meeting Street to E. Bay, which is about two city blocks. The Market is home to a wide variety of handmade goods, souvenirs, t-shirts and more! The market runs through the center of the road, in the boulevard and is lined on both sides with shops, restaurants and sweet treats! This is a MUST!
3. Take a carriage tour! Any way you slice it, this is a classic tourist activity! These tours are relaxing, as you stroll through the streets, you’ll hear the clip clop of horse feet while your coachman shares the rich history of the city! We used Palmetto Carriage Works, there are several and I would assume they all give a similar experience. It is best to prebook online, both Old South and Palmetto board near the Market. Pro Tip: Booking a dinner reservation on Market (we did Burwell’s) and then taking your carriage ride the hour before worked perfectly!
4. Stroll the Waterfront Park Path! It begins at the Charleston Pier and ends at White Point Garden and is a gorgeously landscaped route along the water winding through various parks, including the famous Pineapple Fountain! Pro Tip: If you loop around White Pointe Garden and head up King Street, there are some gorgeous homes that are each meticulously landscaped.
5. Eat and drink you way around Town! Charleston is for foodies, and they also proved to supply some amazing cocktails! You really can’t go wrong, everywhere we went was delicious, but here were some favorites!
· Burwell’s – (dinner) Upscale steakhouse. I think we ordered one of everything, it was all wonderful! The deviled eggs and scallops were a favorite!
· Fleets Landing – (lunch/cocktails) waterfront casual dining. This is the only waterfront restaurant downtown, has a cool vibe, fun cocktails, beautiful view and friendly staff!
· The Griffin – (bar) Standard whole in the wall bar with a twist. The walls are lined with dollar bills, they will happily supply you with a staple gun and sharpie so you can leave your mark!
· The Rooftop – (bar) Beautiful views, fun cocktails, a bit fancier.
· Carmella’s - (dessert/bar) SO GOOD! Decadent desserts, fancy coffee drinks and martinis are what this spot is famous for! Be prepared to stand in line (even late night) it will be out the door! Pro Tip: If you can, sneak a seat at the bar for quicker sit-down service!
· Millers All Day – (brunch) eclectic bar feel. Fun atmosphere, bright and airy, friendly staff! Order carries out or sit down to be treated to an amazing brunch complete with your choice of cocktail! You can’t go wrong here!
· Shem Creek – (dinner/Drinks) This area located about 20 minutes from Charleston is a quaint harbor town with plenty of places to eat and drink to your hearts content! Mostly outdoor seating with beautiful views! Lots of seafood options!
· Pretty much anything SEAFOOD! It was all so fresh!
With these five musts you are sure to enjoy your trip!
